It’s been 20 years and The Masterless Men are still going strong! With six albums in stores and a seventh to be released in July, 2011, this talented group continues to share their love of music with anyone lucky enough to listen. Delighting audiences with tunes that fuse the sounds of Irish, folk and bluegrass, this talented group will surely get you on your feet.

The band’s namesake reflects on the bold and resourceful group of outlaws who persevered against English law in the latter half of the 18th century. These men took refuge in the Butter Pot on Newfoundland’s Southern Shore. Often likened to Robin Hood’s gang, the original Masterless Men were pioneers, who never backed down.

John Curran, Perry Dawe, Dave Lush, Bob Wiseman, Chuck Lewis and Greg Walsh may not live off the land and hide from the law, they certainly are leaving their own legacy on Newfoundland and Labrador’s musical landscape. The group has been pleasing crowds from George Street to all over Canada and the United States and beyond. The Masterless Men have shared the stage with some of music’s greats and continue to share their love of music with the world.

Whether their music gives you the urge to jump up and dance or close your eyes and get lost in the story, The Masterless Men are not to be missed and can guarantee and performance you will not soon forget.

The Band

John Curran

John Curran, the band's founding member from Ferryland on Newfoundland's Irish Loop, has touched the hearts of many with his fine song writing, multi-talented musicianship, and his extremely gifted tenor voice, known for delivering the sweetest of ballads and rich traditional Irish songs.

Chuck Lewis

Chuck Lewis can lend his powerful voice to a masterful rousing hand-clapping, toe-tapping song; and a moment later, he can deliver a love song with tenderness and emotion.

Dave Lush

Dave Lush's fiery, Celtic bluegrass banjo virtuosity is stunning, and his wry wit belies his other proficiencies as a drummer, keyboardist, harmonica player, and background singer.

Perry Dawe

Perry Dawe's mandolin magic exemplifies his mastering of the stringed instruments. His tremendous bass-baritone voice adds so much to the groups' superb vocal harmonies.

 Bob Wiseman

Bob Wiseman, a journeyman musician, surrounds the group's sound and brings it all together with his Fender jazz bass, while adding his soft harmony vocals to a sound that is now complete.

Greg Walsh

Greg Walsh was raised in Bay de Verde, NL and influenced by his father Ray Walsh and the singing and playing of his grandparents, Greg Walsh became interested in traditional music as a teenager and immediately took to playing traditional instruments including fiddle, mandolin, guitar, tenor banjo, piano accordion, bozouki, etc.

After moving to St. John’s in 1993 to attend university, he began frequenting traditional music sessions in the area and has since gone on to play, tour and record with many groups including the Walsh Family Band, The Navigators, Celtic Cross (Ontario), The Irish Descendants, Foc’sle, Middle Tickle, etc.

A long time fan of the group, Greg played with The Masterless Men on several occasions from 2003 – 2007. He officially joined the band in 2007.
